Equality and Tolerance Reporting Women

Women are under-represented in the media and news coverage frequently reinforces gender stereotypes. High quality reporting of women's issues can empower societies, and improve the lives of women.

Overview

Significant progess has been made in advancing gender equality, but in many parts of the world women suffer violence and discrimination, and are under-represented in political and economic decision-making processes. Effective coverage of women's rights can change the way societies treat women, and contribute to a change in how news outlets cover these stories.

Thomson Reuters Foundation works with journalists to rethink how women's stories are being told in the media. We explore how female perspectives have the ability to shape media coverage of any given event, and how to get women to speak up in societies where their voices are often marginalised.
